Meta to Test eBay Listings on Facebook Marketplace in Germany, France, and US Amid €798 Million EU Antitrust Fine
Jan 8, 2025, 02:50 PM
Meta Platforms Inc. is set to launch a test in Germany, France, and the US, allowing buyers to browse eBay Inc. listings directly on Facebook Marketplace. This move comes in response to a €798 million fine imposed by the European Union for antitrust violations related to the integration of Marketplace with its social network. The test will enable eBay sellers to gain exposure to Meta's audience, while Marketplace users will have access to a broader array of listings. Transactions will still be completed on eBay's platform. This initiative is part of Meta's efforts to comply with the EU's order, despite the company's ongoing appeal of the fine, which it claims is based on a 'hypothetical potential to harm competition.' The EU had previously fined Meta $840 million and $821 million for similar violations, accusing the company of imposing 'unfair trading conditions' on rival classified ads services.
