Former Harrods Owner Mohamed Al-Fayed Accused of Rape and Sexual Assault by 37 Women, Including Three Canadians
Sep 20, 2024, 12:55 PM
Former Harrods owner Mohamed Al-Fayed has been accused of rape and sexual assault by dozens of women, according to a new BBC documentary. The late Egyptian billionaire, who died in 2023 at the age of 94, allegedly abused female staff at the luxury department store in London over several decades. Lawyers representing the alleged victims have described Al-Fayed as a 'monster' and compared the case to those involving Jimmy Savile, Jeffrey Epstein, and Harvey Weinstein. The accusations include claims of rape, sexual assault, and harassment, with some victims stating they were silenced by non-disclosure agreements and pay-offs. A Canadian is among the women who have come forward, and there are reports that more than 150 women have made similar allegations. Harrods may face civil claims over the systemic wrongdoing that allegedly enabled Al-Fayed's actions. Lawyers representing 37 women detailed these allegations at a London press conference, including three Canadians who have come forward.
