ASML Faces Dutch Export Curbs on Chipmaking Tools, China Dissatisfied
Sep 8, 2024, 05:16 AM
ASML, a leading Dutch semiconductor equipment manufacturer, is facing new export restrictions imposed by the Netherlands on its chipmaking tools. The restrictions have sparked dissatisfaction from China, which has voiced strong objections to the move. ASML's CEO Christophe Fouquet mentioned that despite the curbs, Chinese chipmakers will still be able to produce chips at 7nm, 5nm, and 3nm technology levels using Deep Ultraviolet (DUV) tools. The Chinese Commerce Ministry has criticized the Netherlands' decision, attributing it to US pressure aimed at maintaining global hegemony.
