Apple and Google Remove TikTok From U.S. App Stores Following Supreme Court Upholding of Ban
Jan 19, 2025, 04:08 AM
Apple and Google have removed TikTok from their respective app stores in the U.S., following a law that requires ByteDance to divest TikTok or face a ban. The removal means that new downloads of the app are no longer available in the U.S. The Supreme Court upheld the Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act, which led to TikTok halting its services in the U.S. as of January 19. President-elect Donald Trump has indicated he might give TikTok a 90-day extension to the divestiture deadline, which is set to expire on January 20, the day he is sworn into office.
