Michael Bloomberg Donates $1 Billion to Make Johns Hopkins Medical School Tuition-Free Starting Fall 2024
Jul 8, 2024, 02:06 PM
Michael Bloomberg, through Bloomberg Philanthropies, has donated $1 billion to Johns Hopkins University. This substantial gift will make the School of Medicine tuition-free for most medical students, specifically those from families earning under $300,000 a year. Additionally, students from families earning up to $175,000 will receive a full ride, including living expenses. The donation will also increase financial aid for students in nursing, public health, and other graduate programs at Johns Hopkins. This initiative is part of Bloomberg's ongoing efforts to increase U.S. life expectancy and reduce student debt burdens. The new financial aid measures will begin in the fall of 2024. Bloomberg, a Johns Hopkins graduate, has given the school a total of $4.55 billion through his philanthropic efforts.
