Michael Bloomberg Donates $1 Billion to Johns Hopkins for Tuition-Free Medical School Starting Fall 2024
Jul 8, 2024, 07:25 PM
Michael Bloomberg, through Bloomberg Philanthropies, has donated $1 billion to Johns Hopkins University to make its medical school tuition-free for most students. Starting in the fall of 2024, the donation will cover full tuition for medical students from families earning less than $300,000 annually, which encompasses 95% of American families. Additionally, students from families earning up to $175,000 will receive a full ride, including living expenses. This transformative gift aims to reduce student debt and increase financial aid for students in other graduate programs, such as nursing and public health. Bloomberg, a Johns Hopkins alumnus, has now contributed a total of $4.55 billion to the university through his philanthropic efforts.
