An active-duty Army Special Forces soldier, Master Sgt. Matthew Alan Livelsberger, 37, died in a Tesla Cybertruck explosion outside the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas on New Year's Day. Livelsberger, a highly decorated Green Beret who had been receiving mental health treatment for depression, shot himself before the vehicle exploded, according to police. He had recently been left by his wife and had legally purchased two firearms, a handgun and a rifle, days before the incident. Text messages shared with NBC News showed he was boasting about renting the Cybertruck to an ex-girlfriend on New Year's Eve, saying 'I feel like Batman.' Notes found on his phone revealed he viewed his actions as a 'wake-up call' rather than a terrorist attack, stating, 'We are being led by weak and feckless leadership who only serve to enrich themselves.' Livelsberger had been diagnosed with depression but was not deemed a risk by military behavioral health assessments. The investigation is ongoing as authorities search for a motive behind the explosion.
