Elon Musk's X Opts Users In by Default to Train Grok AI
Jul 26, 2024, 04:05 PM
Elon Musk's social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, has quietly activated a new 'data-sharing experience' that automatically opts users into allowing their data to be used to train its AI, Grok. The setting, which includes the use of posts, interactions, inputs, and results, is enabled by default without prior notice or consent from users. Users can opt out of this data-sharing feature by navigating to the Settings menu under Privacy and Safety, and then to the Grok section. This setting cannot be disabled via the mobile app and must be adjusted through the web interface. Privacy watchdogs have expressed surprise and concern over the lack of transparency in this move. The European Union is also scrutinizing this practice for potential privacy violations.
