Russian Forces Attack ICRC Vehicles in Donetsk on Sept. 12, Killing 3
Sep 12, 2024, 12:26 PM
On Sept. 12, Russian forces shelled the village of Virolyubivka in Ukraine's Donetsk region, targeting vehicles of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). The attack resulted in the deaths of three Ukrainian citizens, who were employees of the ICRC, and injured two others. The humanitarian aid truck they were in was destroyed. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky condemned the attack, calling it a war crime and urging international organizations to recognize Russia's violation of the Geneva Conventions. The attack occurred just 14 km from the combat zone.
