Israel Targets Hezbollah's Hashem Safieddine in October 3 Beirut Airstrikes; Leader Unreachable
Oct 5, 2024, 07:50 AM
Israel has conducted a series of heavy airstrikes on Beirut, targeting senior Hezbollah officials, including Hashem Safieddine, who was widely expected to succeed the late Hassan Nasrallah as the group's leader. The airstrikes, which took place on October 3, targeted an underground bunker where Hezbollah leaders were believed to be meeting. Reports indicate that Safieddine has been unreachable since the strikes, and there are unconfirmed reports of his death according to a Saudi news outlet. Additionally, Hezbollah's chief of intelligence, Hussein Hazimah, also known as 'Mortada', was believed to be present in the bunker during the attack. The strikes, which involved 20 bunker-busting bombs, are part of Israel's ongoing efforts to dismantle Hezbollah's leadership structure.
