Badlapur Sexual Assault Accused Akshay Shinde Shot Dead by Thane Police After Snatching Officer's Revolver
Sep 23, 2024, 02:22 PM
Akshay Shinde, the main accused in the Badlapur school sexual assault case, was shot dead by police after he attempted to snatch a police officer's revolver and fired at the officers during transit. The incident occurred while Shinde was being transported from Taloja jail for further investigation. Shinde fired three to four rounds, injuring police officer Nilesh More. In the ensuing retaliatory firing, Shinde was critically injured and later succumbed to his injuries at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital in Thane. Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis confirmed the incident and stated that Shinde's ex-wife had lodged a complaint of sexual assault against him, which led to his arrest and subsequent transport for investigation. Thane Police reported that the police acted in self-defence.
