23-Year-Old Badlapur Sexual Assault Accused Akshay Shinde Shot Dead by Police in Thane

Akshay Shinde, the 23-year-old main accused in the sexual assault case of two girls at a school in Badlapur, Maharashtra, was shot dead by police on September 23, 2024. Shinde, who was being transported for further investigation following a complaint by his ex-wife, snatched a police officer's revolver and fired three rounds, injuring a police officer named Nilesh More. The police responded with retaliatory fire, resulting in Shinde's death. The incident, which occurred in Thane district, has sparked controversy, with opposition parties questioning the circumstances of the encounter and calling for an investigation. Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis have defended the police action, stating it was in self-defense. The body of Akshay Shinde has been transferred to JJ Hospital in Mumbai for a postmortem examination.
