DOE Report Urges Faster Adoption of Sustainable Aviation Fuel
Dec 3, 2024, 03:00 AM
The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has released a new report outlining pathways to commercial liftoff for Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), which can reduce CO2 emissions by up to 80% compared to traditional jet fuel. Despite its environmental benefits, SAF currently accounts for only 1% of global aviation fuel use. A study cited by Reuters indicates that airlines are not transitioning quickly enough to green jet fuel. Air France-KLM has been identified by a think tank as the airline most committed to sustainable fuel, while environmental groups argue that the overall shift to SAF is insufficient.
