SpaceX Dominates Q3 2024 Launch Market, Awaits FAA License; Amazon's Project Kuiper to Begin Satellite Launches
Oct 9, 2024, 02:06 PM
SpaceX has solidified its dominance in the launch services industry, conducting 26 orbital launches in Q3 2024, nearly tripling the output of its nearest competitors. The company has completed over 377 successful Falcon 9 missions to date, with 94 launches in 2024 alone. SpaceX is also leveraging its position as the world’s primary rocket launcher to push satellite rivals to share wireless airwaves, including companies like Kepler Communications and OneWeb. Attorneys from the law firm Wilson Sonsini have met with the Justice Department regarding these negotiations. SpaceX is currently awaiting an FAA license before it can launch Starship. Meanwhile, Amazon is set to launch satellites in Q4 2024 for its Project Kuiper satellite-based Internet service, with Evercore ISI reiterating an outperform rating for Amazon and a price target of $240. Amazon plans to launch 59 LEO satellites in 2025, in contrast to SpaceX's fleet of over 7000 satellites.
