India Approves Launch of 52 Spy Satellites for Rs 27,000 Crore; ISRO and Skyroot Aerospace Lead Efforts

The Indian government has approved the launch of 52 spy satellites as part of a Rs 27,000 crore initiative to enhance space surveillance capabilities. This development is seen as a significant step in India's space strategy, which aims to leverage data and small satellites to establish a competitive edge in the commercial space sector. Officials indicate that India plans to focus on building and launching small satellites affordably, rather than directly competing with major players like SpaceX. Bharath Daka, Co-Founder of Skyroot Aerospace, has emphasized that government support is crucial for the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) as it works towards establishing its own space stations by 2040. AK Bhatt, Director General of the Indian Space Association, noted that focusing on small satellites for observation presents a viable sector where India can excel.
