Braves Trade Jorge Soler to Angels for Griffin Canning, $16M Salary Covered, No Cash Involved
Oct 31, 2024, 05:49 PM
The Atlanta Braves have traded outfielder Jorge Soler to the Los Angeles Angels. In return, the Braves will receive right-handed pitcher Griffin Canning. Soler, who was the 2021 World Series MVP, will have his $16 million salary for each of the next two seasons covered entirely by the Angels. The deal involves no cash exchange. Canning, 28, has a career record of 25-34 with a 4.78 ERA over 99 games (94 starts) in parts of five MLB seasons and is seen as a potential fifth starter candidate for the Braves. The trade, which took place less than 24 hours after the World Series ended, marks the beginning of the MLB offseason.
