Venice Day-Tripper Tax Raises Up to €2.4 Million, Doubling Considered
Jul 19, 2024, 08:01 PM
Venice has implemented a day-tripper tax on 29 days this year, primarily on weekends and holidays from April 25 through mid-July. The pilot scheme has raised between €2 million and €2.4 million ($2.6 million), with reports also indicating $2.2 million and £2 million. Despite its financial success, the tax had a limited impact on reducing tourist crowds. Opponents say it failed to deter visitors. City officials are considering doubling the tax next year, with decisions expected in the fall after a full analysis of the data.
