After Two Years, Iran Unanimously Lifts Ban on WhatsApp and Google Play
Dec 24, 2024, 02:12 PM
Iran's Supreme Council of Cyberspace has voted unanimously to lift the ban on WhatsApp and Google Play, ending restrictions that have been in place for over two years. The decision was made during a meeting on Tuesday, December 24, 2024, chaired by President Dr. Pezeshkian and attended by the heads of the three branches of government and council members. This move is considered the first step in the government's plan to lift internet restrictions and filtering. A support package amounting to 50 billion tomans has been allocated to domestic platforms. Despite this development, other popular platforms such as Telegram, Instagram, YouTube, and X (formerly Twitter) remain blocked.
