After Two Years of Resistance, Russian Forces Capture Strategic Town Vuhledar, Marking Setback for Ukraine
Oct 2, 2024, 08:44 AM
Russian forces have captured the strategic town of Vuhledar in eastern Ukraine's Donetsk region, marking a significant setback for Ukraine. After advancing from the west and south, Russian troops reached the city center and occupied several buildings, including the Vuhledar City Council where soldiers from the 36th Separate Guards Motor Rifle Brigade raised their flag. Ukrainian forces, after resisting for over two years, have withdrawn to Bohoyavlenka, north of Vuhledar, and fighting continues in the surrounding fields. Vuhledar, once home to 14,000 people, has been reduced to rubble after prolonged conflict. The loss of this bastion on strategic high ground in the Donbas region could have substantial consequences for the Ukrainian military.
