Odisha Police Accused of Assaulting and Harassing Army Officer and Fiancée, 5 Cops Suspended
Sep 20, 2024, 04:38 AM
An Indian Army officer and his fiancée have alleged that they were assaulted and harassed by police officers at the Bharatpur police station in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. The incident reportedly occurred after the couple went to the station to file a complaint about a road-rage incident. The fiancée has accused the police of physical and sexual assault, including being tied up, kicked, and molested, resulting in nasal bleed, bruises, and abrasions. The police officer Dinakrushna Mishra and four other personnel were identified in the allegations. Following the accusations, the Odisha Police transferred the case to the Crime Branch for investigation. Five police personnel involved in the incident have been suspended. The Odisha High Court has granted bail to the fiancée, and the National Commission for Women has demanded a detailed report on the incident. Former Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has called for a judicial inquiry into the matter. The Army officer has been identified as Guruvansh Singh.
