Odisha Police Accused of Assaulting Army Officer and Fiancée in Bhubaneswar; 5 Cops Suspended
Sep 20, 2024, 02:50 AM
An Indian Army officer, Captain Guruvansh, and his fiancée, Ankita, have alleged they were assaulted and harassed by police at Bharatpur Police Station in Bhubaneswar, Odisha on September 15. The incident reportedly occurred after the couple went to the police station to file a complaint following a road-rage altercation. The fiancée claims she was molested, disrobed, and beaten by police officers, leading to nasal bleeding, bruises, and abrasions. The Odisha Police have transferred the case to the Crime Branch CID and suspended five police personnel involved in the incident. The Orissa High Court has granted bail to the fiancée, and the National Commission for Women has demanded a detailed report. Former Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has called for a judicial inquiry into the incident.
