Calcutta HC Orders Action Against Three Kolkata Police Officers Over IAS Officer’s Wife Rape Case
Sep 29, 2024, 11:18 AM
The Calcutta High Court has directed disciplinary action against three officers of the Kolkata Police, including the officer-in-charge of Lake police station, over flawed investigations into the rape of an IAS officer's wife on July 14-15. The High Court criticized the police for attempting to suppress the case and not taking proper action. BJP National Spokesperson Dr. Sudhanshu Trivedi condemned the incident, highlighting concerns over the state's handling of such crimes. Aparna Yadav, Vice-Chairperson of the Uttar Pradesh State Women's Commission, also commented, stating that such incidents reflect an opposition mentality. In response to the court's criticism, Kolkata police have initiated an inquiry against the officers. Protests have erupted in Kolkata over the incident, with demands for justice and accountability.
