Queens Halal Food Worker Fired After Viral Video Shows Him Catching Pigeon with Plastic Bag
Jan 4, 2025, 07:35 PM
A Queens food truck worker in New York City was caught on video capturing a pigeon with a plastic bag and bringing it back to his halal food cart. The incident, which occurred near the Rego Center Mall on December 29, 2024, sparked public outrage after the footage went viral on social media. The worker was reportedly seen feeding birds before attempting to grab one and placing it in a bag. The MS Halal truck, where the worker was employed, has since fired him. Bangladesh-native Muhammad Mola, a coworker, stated that the worker claimed he was rescuing a pigeon with tied legs and was unfamiliar with local laws regarding wildlife. The New York City Department of Health inspected the cart and found no evidence of pigeons or health code violations but stated they would continue monitoring the situation. The incident led to numerous complaints to the city and negative reviews online, impacting the business. Pigeons in New York are associated with potential health risks, including diseases such as salmonella and E. coli, and trapping them without permits is illegal.
