Rex Heuermann Charged with Murder of Valerie Mack, Seventh Victim in Gilgo Beach Killings
Dec 17, 2024, 03:08 PM
Rex Heuermann, a New York architect already facing multiple murder charges in connection with the Gilgo Beach serial killings, has been charged with a seventh murder, prosecutors announced on Tuesday. The new charge relates to the death of Valerie Mack, also known as Melissa Taylor, a 24-year-old woman from New Jersey who was last seen in 2000. Mack, who had been working as an escort in Philadelphia, disappeared that year, and her remains were discovered in Manorville, Long Island, in 2000. She was identified through DNA analysis, and her family was expected to be present in court as Heuermann was formally charged. The Suffolk County District Attorney's Office described the announcement as a "significant development" in the ongoing investigation. The Gilgo Beach killings involve the deaths of several women whose bodies were found along a remote stretch of Long Island's Gilgo Beach. Heuermann, who has pleaded not guilty to the previous charges, is accused in the deaths of women who were involved in sex work.
