Kamel Hawkins Charged with Attempted Murder After Shoving Man onto Subway Tracks in Chelsea

A 45-year-old man was critically injured after being pushed onto the subway tracks at the 18th Street station in Manhattan's Chelsea neighborhood around 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The suspect, identified as 23-year-old Kamel Hawkins, has been charged with attempted murder and assault following the attack. Hawkins, who has a criminal history including body-slamming a police officer and other charges, was arrested shortly after the incident. The victim sustained a head injury but is expected to survive. The incident occurred just over a mile from Times Square, where New Year's Eve celebrations were being prepared.
