Snap Unveils Fifth-Gen Spectacles AR Glasses with Snap OS, 46-Degree FoV, 45-Minute Battery
Sep 17, 2024, 06:08 PM
Snap Inc. has unveiled the fifth generation of its Spectacles augmented reality (AR) glasses at the Snap Partner Summit 2024 in Santa Monica, California. The new Spectacles, announced by CEO Evan Spiegel, feature a custom operating system called Snap OS. The glasses boast a 46-degree field of view with 37 pixels per degree resolution, dual Snapdragon processors, and a battery life of 45 minutes. They are designed for both indoor and outdoor use with auto-transitioning lenses and include a see-through waveguide and miniature LCOS projector. Notably, Snap is offering these glasses to developers at a cost of $99 per month, emphasizing a no-developer tax policy. The company aims to enhance natural interactions and is positioning these glasses as a step towards making AR hardware as ubiquitous as smartphones. Additionally, there are hands-on impressions highlighting a partnership with Niantic's Peridot, and CEO Evan Spiegel conducted a live demo of the new Spectacles.
