Three Workers Found Dead After Five-Day Rescue Operation in Thai Tunnel Collapse
Aug 30, 2024, 01:23 AM
Authorities in Thailand have been conducting a search operation for three individuals trapped inside a collapsed railway tunnel in Pak Chong District, Nakhon Ratchasima. The tunnel, part of the China-Thailand high-speed rail project, collapsed on a Saturday night, trapping a Chinese foreman, a Chinese backhoe driver, and a Myanmar truck driver. Despite initial hopes as life signs were detected, the rescue efforts faced challenges. Deputy Transport Minister Surapong Piyachote confirmed that rescuers had identified the location of the first trapped individual. Ekkarat, a rescue official, expected the first rescue by evening. Sawang Rescue News reported that one individual was found deceased, and eventually, all three were confirmed dead after a five-day rescue operation. The State Railway of Thailand confirmed the recovery of their bodies.
