VisitUK Train Drivers Accept 15% Pay Deal with 96% Backing, Ending Two-Year Dispute
Sep 18, 2024, 11:37 AM
Train drivers in the UK have voted overwhelmingly to accept a multi-year pay deal, ending a two-year dispute at 16 train companies. The deal, backed by 96% of Aslef union members with an 89% turnout, includes a 15% pay increase over three years. The resolution, facilitated by Labour, marks the end of the longest train drivers' strike in history. Mick Whelan, Aslef’s general secretary, expressed his pleasure at the conclusion of the dispute, which had involved extensive strike action across England. The Transport Secretary described the agreement as an important step towards fixing the railways.
