Pentagon Reveals 2,000 U.S. Troops in Syria on Temporary Basis to Defeat ISIS
Dec 19, 2024, 08:07 PM
The Pentagon has disclosed that the number of U.S. troops in Syria has increased to approximately 2,000, more than double the previously reported figure of 900. Pentagon Press Secretary Major General Pat Ryder clarified that the additional 1,100 troops are on a temporary rotational basis, supplementing the core presence of around 900 troops. These forces are focused on the ongoing mission to defeat ISIS, which is part of the Combined Joint Task Force Operation Inherent Resolve (CJTF-OIR). The deployment of these additional troops occurred before the fall of the Assad regime, according to the Pentagon.
