On July 13, Italian police freed 33 Indian farm laborers from slave-like conditions in Verona. The laborers were forced to work seven days a week for 10-12 hours a day at a rate of €4 per hour. All their wages were docked to settle debts. Authorities seized nearly €500,000 from the two alleged abusers responsible for the slavery.
