Florida AG Sues FEMA; Fired Supervisor Claims Skipping Trump Homes Was Widespread
Nov 14, 2024, 10:50 AM
A FEMA supervisor, Marn'i Washington, was fired after instructing disaster relief workers in Florida to skip homes displaying Trump signs during hurricane relief efforts following Hurricanes Helene and Milton. Washington claims that this practice was not isolated and occurred in the Carolinas as well. She cited 'political hostility' and safety concerns as reasons, stating that entire streets were skipped if staff encountered hostile Trump supporters. Washington asserts she is being scapegoated and that she was following agency protocol. Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody has filed a lawsuit against FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell and Washington, alleging political discrimination against Trump supporters. The lawsuit claims that FEMA conspired to withhold aid from hurricane victims displaying support for President-elect Donald Trump. FEMA denies that the instructions were agency policy, asserting that Washington acted on personal motives. Fifty-five House Republicans, led by Representative Vern Buchanan, are demanding accountability and a full investigation into the matter to ensure such discrimination does not occur again. FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell is expected to testify before Congress regarding the allegations.
