Toyota Launches Woven City in Japan, Invests $45 Million in Interstellar Technologies for Rocket Development
Jan 6, 2025, 09:55 PM
Toyota Motor Corp. has announced plans to launch its futuristic 'Woven City' project in Japan this fall, with the first phase of construction now complete. The city, located at the base of Mount Fuji, aims to serve as a living laboratory for testing advanced technologies, including autonomous vehicles and robotics. The first residents, termed 'Weavers,' will be Toyota employees and their families, with an initial group of 100 moving in by fall 2025 or shortly thereafter. The project is set to expand to accommodate up to 2,000 people in the future. Additionally, Toyota has revealed a significant investment in space technology, committing approximately $45 million (7 billion yen) to Interstellar Technologies Inc., a Japanese startup focused on rocket development, through its subsidiary Woven by Toyota. This move, announced by Chairman Akio Toyoda at CES 2025, reflects Toyota's broader vision for mobility that extends beyond Earth.
