Al Jazeera Journalists Ismail Al-Ghoul and Rami Al-Rifi Killed in Israeli Airstrike in Gaza
Jul 31, 2024, 03:00 PM
Al Jazeera correspondent Ismail Al-Ghoul and his cameraman Rami Al-Rifi were killed in an Israeli airstrike on July 31, 2024, in Gaza City. The strike targeted their vehicle while they were covering news near the home of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in the Al-Shati refugee camp. Reports indicate that Al-Ghoul was decapitated in the attack. Both journalists were known for their dedication to reporting on the conflict in Gaza. Al-Ghoul had previously been detained and assaulted during the Al-Shifa Hospital siege in March. The journalists were targeted even after following an evacuation order. Al-Ghoul was a father of one child. This incident adds to the growing number of journalists killed in Gaza, with over 160 journalists reported dead in the past 10 months.
