WADA Appeals Decision Clearing Jannik Sinner in Steroid Case, Seeks Two-Year Ban
Sep 28, 2024, 09:45 AM
The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has filed an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) against the decision to clear world number one tennis player Jannik Sinner of any wrongdoing after he tested positive for the banned steroid clostebol twice in March. The independent tribunal of the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) had found Sinner to bear 'no fault or negligence,' leading to his provisional suspension being lifted within three days. WADA, however, disagrees with this finding and is seeking a suspension of between one to two years for Sinner. The appeal was announced by the Montreal-based body during Sinner's match at the China Open, where he expressed his disappointment and surprise at the decision, stating that all three hearings had been positive for him.
