WADA Seeks Ban for World No.1 Jannik Sinner over Steroid Doping Case
Sep 28, 2024, 08:32 AM
The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) against the decision to clear world number one tennis player Jannik Sinner of doping violations. Sinner tested positive twice for a banned steroid in March but was found by an independent tribunal of the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) to bear "no fault or negligence." His provisional suspension was lifted within three days, with no public disclosure for six months. WADA is seeking a period of ineligibility for Sinner between one to two years, stating that the tribunal's finding was incorrect. Sinner, currently competing at the China Open in Beijing, expressed disappointment and surprise at the appeal, saying, "I'm very disappointed and also surprised of this appeal, because all three hearings came out very positively for me."
