Tiananmen Square Activist Yuanjun Tang Charged with Spying for China
Aug 22, 2024, 03:00 AM
Federal prosecutors in New York have filed criminal charges against Yuanjun Tang, a Chinese dissident living in the U.S., accusing him of covertly working for China's intelligence agency, the Ministry of State Security. Tang, a naturalized U.S. citizen and former Tiananmen Square pro-democracy activist, is charged with acting as an unregistered agent of China and making materially false statements to the FBI. The Department of Justice alleges that Tang was involved in spying on pro-democracy activist groups in the United States. Tang, who is the vice-chairman of the China Civil Liberties Union, was arrested on August 21, 2024.
