Yuanjun Tang Arrested August 21, Charged as Chinese Agent by DOJ
Aug 21, 2024, 10:17 PM
Federal prosecutors in New York have filed criminal charges against Yuanjun Tang, a naturalized U.S. citizen, accusing him of acting as an illegal agent for the Chinese government. Tang, a former Chinese citizen and vice-chairman of the China Civil Liberties Union, is alleged to have covertly worked for China's Ministry of State Security, spying on pro-democracy activist groups. The Department of Justice stated that Tang was arrested on August 21 and charged with acting and conspiring to act as an unregistered agent of China, as well as making materially false statements to the FBI. Tang was a participant in the 1989 Tiananmen Square protests.
