17-Year-Old Nwaneri Scores but Arsenal's Title Hopes Dented in 1-1 Draw at Brighton
Jan 4, 2025, 06:52 PM
Arsenal's Premier League title hopes took a hit as they drew 1-1 with Brighton & Hove Albion at the Amex Stadium. Seventeen-year-old Ethan Nwaneri gave Arsenal the lead in the 16th minute, becoming the first player in the club's history to score more than one Premier League goal before turning 18 and just the sixth player in Premier League history to achieve this feat. England manager Thomas Tuchel was in attendance to witness Nwaneri's impressive performance. Brighton equalized in the 62nd minute when Joao Pedro converted a penalty after a clash with William Saliba. Pedro's goal means he has scored 11 penalties since the start of last season, with only Mohamed Salah and Cole Palmer having more among Premier League players. The result leaves Arsenal five points behind leaders Liverpool, who have two games in hand, and missed the chance to close the gap in the title race.
