Bukayo Saka Shines as Arsenal Lead West Ham 5-2 at Halftime
Nov 30, 2024, 06:10 PM
Arsenal produced a remarkable first-half performance against West Ham United, leading 5-2 at halftime in their Premier League encounter. Gabriel opened the scoring in the 10th minute, netting Arsenal's 20th goal from a corner since the start of last season—the highest in the league—with Gabriel himself scoring his fifth from such situations. No team or player has more goals from corners during this period. Bukayo Saka provided two assists, including a superb setup for Leandro Trossard in the 27th minute, and won a penalty. Martin Ødegaard, returning from injury, converted the penalty in the 34th minute to make it 3-0. Kai Havertz added the fourth goal in the 36th minute following a pass from Trossard. Saka then scored from the spot in stoppage time, bringing his Premier League assists tally to ten this season—the first player in Europe's top five leagues to reach that mark. West Ham pulled two goals back through Aaron Wan-Bissaka and a stunning free-kick from Emerson Palmieri in the 38th and 40th minutes, respectively. The match marked only the fourth time in Premier League history that seven goals have been scored in the first half.
