Trump Aims to End Ukraine War Within Six Months, Plans Meeting with Putin
Jan 10, 2025, 10:48 AM
President-elect Donald Trump has adjusted his timeline for ending the war in Ukraine, now expressing hope to resolve the conflict within six months rather than the 24 hours he previously pledged during his campaign. Trump's envoy for Ukraine, Keith Kellogg, has set an ambitious goal to end the conflict within 100 days of Trump's inauguration on January 20. Kellogg's planned visit to Kyiv has been postponed until after the inauguration due to legal reasons. In addition, Trump announced that preparations are underway for a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, stating that "Putin wants to meet." The Kremlin confirmed Putin's openness to dialogue without preconditions, with spokesman Dmitry Peskov stating that while no official requests have been received, Russia welcomes Trump's intention to resolve issues through dialogue. Meanwhile, Ukraine's Foreign Ministry has expressed readiness for high-level contacts with the new U.S. administration immediately after the inauguration, indicating a willingness to engage with Trump's team on resolving the ongoing conflict.
