OpenAI's ChatGPT experienced an outage on December 26, 2024, with users worldwide reporting that the artificial intelligence chatbot was inaccessible since around 1:30 PM ET. According to Downdetector, over 10,226 reports of OpenAI outages were registered in the United States as of 2:07 PM ET. OpenAI acknowledged the issue, stating that ChatGPT, APIs, and Sora, its video generation service, were experiencing high error rates due to a problem caused by an upstream provider. The outage affected not only ChatGPT but also several Microsoft web services. Users reported being unable to access or interact with the chatbot, disrupting workflows that rely on the AI service.
