IDF Uncovers 3-Meter-High Hamas Smuggling Tunnel Network at Egypt-Gaza Border
Aug 4, 2024, 12:12 PM
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have uncovered a significant underground tunnel network used by Hamas to smuggle weapons from Egypt into Gaza. This network, found beneath the Philadelphi Corridor, includes a 3-meter-high tunnel discovered at the Egypt-Gaza border near Rafah. Despite Egypt's claims of being unaware of these tunnels, evidence suggests otherwise. The IDF, including Division 162 and the Yahalom Unit, have been actively locating and destroying these tunnels. Some of the tunnels are large enough to transport commercial vehicles, with one tunnel stretching 2km inside Egypt. The discovery has intensified debates between Israeli and international leaders regarding control over the Philadelphi Corridor, which spans from Rafah to the Swedish Village on the Mediterranean coast.
