A magnitude 6.3 earthquake struck El Salvador on Sunday, with the epicenter located off the coast of La Paz, 29 kilometers southwest of Costa del Sol and 70 kilometers from the capital. The earthquake, which occurred at a depth of 33 kilometers, was felt across El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. No immediate reports of casualties or significant damage were received, though 27 aftershocks were recorded, with 11 felt by the population. The Salvadoran Ministry of Environment confirmed there was no tsunami threat following the earthquake. In Guatemala, the earthquake was felt in nine departments, including the capital, with no reported damage to people or structures. Similarly, no damage or casualties were reported in Honduras and Nicaragua, despite the earthquake being strongly felt in the La Paz region of Honduras. The earthquake was attributed to tectonic processes involving the collision of the Cocos and Caribe plates.
