WSJ: Ozempic Drives Demand for Smaller Clothes, Boosts Retail Sales
Jun 17, 2024, 05:26 AM
Ozempic, a drug known for its weight loss effects, is driving a notable trend in the apparel retail sector. Retailers have reported an increase in sales as customers who have lost weight due to Ozempic are purchasing smaller-sized clothing. According to Deirdre Quinn, chief executive of Lafayette 148, about 5% of their customers are replacing their size 12 clothes with size 6 or 8 outfits. This shift is leading to a nascent sales boost for retailers, who are seeing a demand for smaller and 'edgier' clothes. WSJ reports that an analyst commented, 'Not something we’ve seen before.'
