Lebanon's President Joseph Aoun has appointed Nawaf Salam, the President of the International Court of Justice and former Lebanese ambassador to the United Nations, as the new Prime Minister after he secured sufficient parliamentary support. Salam received 85 out of 128 votes from lawmakers, surpassing the required majority. His designation is seen as a setback for Hezbollah, which backed the incumbent caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati. Salam, a veteran diplomat known for his reformist and anti-corruption stance, is expected to form a government to tackle Lebanon's ongoing economic crisis.
