VisitChina Approves Mega Dam on Yarlung Zangbo River in Tibet, Aiming for Power Output Three Times That of Three Gorges
Dec 25, 2024, 03:33 PM
China has approved the construction of a mega dam on the Yarlung Zangbo River in Tibet, which is projected to generate three times more power than the Three Gorges Dam. The project, expected to produce nearly 300 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity annually, will be built in one of the rainiest parts of mainland China. The Yarlung Zangbo River, known as the Brahmaputra in India, flows through the deepest canyon on Earth, presenting significant engineering challenges. The total investment for the dam could exceed 1 trillion yuan, marking it as one of the largest infrastructure projects globally.
