VisitAppeals Court Denies TikTok's Bid; Ban Set for January 19 Unless Sold
Dec 14, 2024, 12:53 AM
On Friday, the U.S. Department of Justice (DoJ) asked a federal appeals court to reject TikTok's emergency bid to temporarily block a law requiring its Chinese parent company, ByteDance, to divest the short-video app by January 19, 2025, or face a ban. The appeals court denied TikTok's request, leaving the mid-January deadline in place. TikTok is expected to appeal to the Supreme Court as it faces a potential U.S. ban if it does not comply with the law.
