105 Dead, 55 Injured in Nigeria Fuel Tanker Explosion After Bus Collision
Oct 16, 2024, 09:58 AM
A fuel tanker explosion in northern Nigeria's Jigawa State has resulted in the deaths of at least 105 people and injured 55 others, according to police reports. The incident occurred in Majiya town, Taura Local Government Area, on Tuesday when a tanker carrying gasoline collided with a bus on a highway. Locals had gathered to collect fuel spilling from the crashed tanker when it exploded, leading to the high casualty figures. The Jigawa State Police Command confirmed the incident and attributed the significant loss of life and injuries to the crowd attempting to scoop fuel from the overturned vehicle. Several vehicles and houses were also reported to have been engulfed in the fire caused by the explosion.
