48 Dead, 23 Vehicles Down in Guangdong Expressway Collapse

The death toll from the collapse of part of an expressway in Guangdong Province, China, has risen to 48. The incident occurred early Wednesday morning and involved a section of the highway that collapsed, sending 23 vehicles down a steep slope. The collapsed section measured 17.9 meters in length and covered an area of 184.3 square meters. Rescue operations are ongoing as authorities continue to search for victims and identify remains, including the DNA of three unidentified people.
