E. coli Outbreak Linked to Onions on McDonald's Quarter Pounders Sickens 104, Hospitalizes 34
Nov 13, 2024, 10:52 PM
Health officials have confirmed that at least 104 people have been sickened in a multistate outbreak of E. coli food poisoning tied to onions served on McDonald’s Quarter Pounder hamburgers. The outbreak has resulted in 34 hospitalizations across 14 U.S. states, with cases reported in states including New Mexico and Kansas. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) noted that the total number of infected individuals has risen from 90 to 104 as of November 13. Federal health officials have ruled out beef patties as the source of the contamination, identifying slivered onions as the likely culprit. Eight of the affected individuals are from Utah. The outbreak continues to be monitored closely by health authorities. Of the 81 people interviewed, 80 reported eating at McDonald's. The outbreak was confirmed by federal health officials on Wednesday.
